You can tune an air intake, but getting an entirely new one would be even better! Sure, tuning the air intake would increase power and efficiency. But, there will come a time when the air intake needs to be replaced, or air filter depending on your case. Nonetheless, we can lecture you on how to provide your EVO X with a new air intake. Have a 10 mm and 12 mm wrench, as well as a set of needle nose pliers.
1.
Ensure that the car’s off. Then, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2.
Remove the two poppet fasteners in order to remove the factory intake scoop. Carefully push the shaft inward until it snaps once. Pull the entire assembly straight upwards after. Remove the factory intake scoop by pulling it out of the air box.
3.
Locate the four snaps that are retaining the air filter box cover. Undo the snaps, remove the air filter box top, and finally the air filter.
4.
Undo both 10 mm bolts that are retaining the lower air filter box to the frame/bracket.
5.
Loosen the clamp that’s retaining the MAS to the intake hose. You might need to remove the IC piping to reach it if the clamp’s inaccessible to you. The clamp can be found on the inlet hose that’s in between the air filter box and IC piping.
6.
Detach the MAS harness and remove the “hold-down” of the harness. Then, wiggle the MAS out of the inlet hose. Whatever you do, don’t yank!
7.
Compress the sides of the tab using those needle nose pliers. Navigate it downward through the air filter housing. The air filter box’s harness will be released.
8.
Pull out the MAS/lower air filter box assembly and separate the two by undoing the four 10 mm nuts on the assembly using an impact wrench If you only have a rachet wrench, then perform a sharp and solid hit to it. Make sure not to lose the gasket that’s around and in front of the MAS, as well as don’t bend anything within it. Also, ensure that the gasket’s properly in place.
9.
Connect the MAS to the bracket that’s supplied with the air intake kit via bolts. Make sure to install the MAS onto the round part of the bracket and on the side that’s opposite of the flat part. To further avoid disturbance in air flow, install the bolts with screw head inside and have the nuts retain the MAS to the bracket on the outside.
10.
Get yourself under the hood and undo the 10 mm bolt that’s retaining the boost sensor to the bracket. Remove another bolt, the 10 mm one that’s retaining the bracket to the car, and the 12 mm bolt that’s retaining the bracket to the IC pipe. Using the set of needle nose pliers, remove the two fasteners that are retaining the IC sprayer water hose. Next, remove the large wire loom that’s connected to the bracket. Squeeze tabs together, all the while pushing the aforementioned parts through the bracket.

Attach booster sensor bracket to the bracket of your new air filter in pre-drilled hole by using the factor 10 mm bolt. Ensure that vacuum lines are facing the turbo inlet hose. Also, ensure that they aren’t ruffled, crinkled, or anything of the sort. Note that If you ever need to remove the MAS air filter bracket for any reason, then remove the MAS air filter clamp and reinstall it in a way where the screw’s head is on the backside of the tube and near the battery facing upwards. Using the two factory 10 mm bolts that retained the already-removed stock bracket, insert the MAS in the intake tube and bolt the bracket.
12.
Reconnect the MAS harness, then finally, using the already-supplied clamp, install your new air intake onto the bracket. Oh right, reconnect the negative battery terminal!

Inspect all clamps, MAS connector, and ensure that bolts are on nicely, Connect the negative battery terminal.and start her/him up!
